Graphene Nanomaterials Next Generation Batteries Circular Economy Energy Materials

About Us

We are an interdisciplinary research group at the University of Southern Queensland focused on developing next-generation solutions in nanomaterials, energy storage, and sustainable chemistry. Our research bridges fundamental materials science with applied innovation, spanning green solvents, battery recycling, and electrocatalysis, while combining experimental investigation with computational methods to tackle urgent global challenges in energy, environment, and resource sustainability.

Equipped with modern instrumentation and guided by a culture of safety and integrity, our lab fosters hands‑on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our goal is not only to produce high‑quality research, but also to cultivate curiosity, resilience, and the next generation of scientific thinkers.

Message from the Lab Director

As Director of the lab, I’ve come to see science as both a discipline of precision and a deeply human pursuit. Our role is to ask meaningful questions and approach them with rigor, creativity, and collaboration.

We value not only results, but the process—embracing challenges, learning from unexpected outcomes, and continually refining our understanding. I’m proud to work alongside a team that brings dedication, curiosity, and a genuine enthusiasm for advancing knowledge in chemistry.

Dr Ashok Kumar Nanjundan
Lab Director
